The LEGO Batman Movie Playsets Have Arrived! (The Dad World Order Holiday Gift List: Day 4)

Okay okay so the holiday gift list hit a snag because I have 4 kids and Thanksgiving weekend absolutely wrecked me but I will want to include items I think are awesome so here we are.

As if today weren’t full of enough LEGO goodies we also have the official release of The LEGO Batman Movie playlets from the upcoming film and they are absolutely awesome for kids and collectors alike. I know my little guy has all 4 of these of his Christmas wishlist and I definitely recommend picking them up quickly before they disappear in the holiday chaos. These are readily available at all major LEGO retailers including LEGO themselves and Amazon.

Seriously though…How awesome is that Joker lowrider!!!

The Dad World Order Holiday Gift List: Day 3

NOTE: Apparently this didn’t post yesterday so it looks like today will be a double dose of toy goodness.

Every year or few years a toy comes out around the holidays that completely sneaks up on unsuspecting parents. There were Furby’s and Tickle Me Elmos to name a few and this year that “must have” toy is Hatchimals by Spin Master.

While those of us in the toy community have watched as Spin Master launched the Hatchimals in October to universal praise, most parents are probably just starting to “What is a Hatcnhimal?”

1cddb863-582b-481c-9857-d2ae03373c2a_1-0e653f2c99254def7ecadf13fc264236

Well basically a Hatchimal is an egg that after some care will hatch into a cute little stuffed creature which will grow and learn from being a newborn baby to a toddler to a kid over time. Its a pretty fun experience for a kid to help hatch and grow their own toy and it puts a really nice spin on the formula of raising/traing a pet (monster)

So the awesome part is that this is a really fun and great gift that any kid would love…..BUT unfortunately they are basically sold out everywhere by now. Retailing for $59.99 most are already reselling on Ebay for $150-$200, which really sucks for parents.

Spin Master who in my eyes have always been a really great company for working with parents and kids alike released the following to address the issue:

A Message From Hatchimals

The consumer response to Hatchimals has been extraordinary, exceeding all expectations. Some of our first shipments have already sold out. While additional product will hit retail shelves in November, we anticipate this inventory will also sell out quickly. We have increased production and a whole new batch of Hatchimals will be ready to hatch in early 2017. This is a special season and we don’t want anyone to be disappointed, nor do we support inflated prices from non-authorized resellers. We are working on creative solutions to help kids and their parents withstand the wait. In the interim, some retailers are developing pre-sale and/or rain-check programs for redemption in January. We will continue to update with program details as they become available.

So basically if you really want to get a Hatcnhimal for your kid or loved one you’re going to need to pay attention because my guess is many stores will be keeping their stock for Black Friday/Thanksgiving Weekend. This will probably be your last chance before Christmas unless you want to pay inflated prices from resellers so keep your eyes peeled for in stock notices. Good luck and Godspeed on your Hatcnhimal quest.

The Dad World Order Holiday Gift List: Day 2

Day 2 of our Holiday list is here! Today’s item is something that I wish existed when my daughters (now 13 & 17) were younger girls as I was always looking for cool female superhero toys I could buy them to play with. Thankfully DC Comics and Mattel heard my cries and earlier this year introduced The DC Superhero Girls line which gave us awesome animated style/kid friendly versions of numerous member of the DCU. Everyone from Wonder Woman to Harley Quinn are included and the brand has become beloved by fans and young girls everywhere who enjoy the figures, comics and animated movies.

Even now, we are about to see a new line of LEGOs based on the characters release right in time for the holidays so if you have a young fan of the DC Superhero Girls it is a perfect time to add this to their Christmas gifts. The line is relatively inexpensive as well with most things costing under $20 and even some retailer exclusives like Target’s 6pack of dolls for only $49.99.

The DC Superhero Girls toys and accessories are an absolute must for this years Christmas list and I highly recommend them to all parents looking to give something really fun and positive to their daughters this year.

The Dad World Order Holiday Gift List: Day 1

I cant believe we are only a little over a week away from Thanksgiving 2016! Now I’ll admit I am one of those people that hates when others gloss over the awesomeness that is Thanksgiving to push us into the Christmas season but as a huge fan of Christmas and the overall holiday season in general, I cant pretend seeing all of the lights and festivities doesn’t get me excited!

10258899_10156339450880582_4098147392812569896_o

With that said I wanted to talk about gift giving. I know sometimes we can all get caught up with the materialism that often surrounds this season but I also love the joy it brings me when I find the perfect gift to give someone, especially when that someone is a kid. Seeing a little ones’ eyes light up is one of the best feelings in the world and I wanted to do my part as a nerd and parent of 17 years on what I think are some of the best gifts to give this Holiday season.

I thought about what format would be best to do this in and while doing one giant list is always fun I think It would be better to focus on one single item each and every day (I might even do several items a day). This way there can be daily suggestions as well as updated info on sales or products as we approach closer to Christmas. My plan right now is to post a new item daily from now until December 15th so you get 1 full month of what I think are the best gifts you can give.

Hopefully you will all enjoy this and it will help you if you’re looking for some great gifts to give this year and if you have any ideas or suggestions for things to include just let me know in the comments or on Twitter @DadWorldOrder

With that said lets get to it!

My first pick is a big one and something I may even be asking for this Christmas and it is the Sony Playstation VR. The PSVR is definitely an expensive pickup this holiday season at $399 and requires that you already own a PS4 system ($399) and a PS Camera ($59) but for gamers looking for a new experience I cant recommend the VR add on enough. Though virtual reality is still in its infancy for home use, it is still one of the most immersive and fun ways to play games I have ever experienced.

The headset allows gamers to “go inside” of the game and actually immerse themselves in new worlds. I had the experience to try out the PSVR and I have to say I’m very excited to see where the future of virtual reality gaming is headed.

The PSVR is definitely recommended for older gamers 12 and up so this might not be the best choice for your little ones but I guarantee it will be a hit with tweens and teens alike as well as adult gamers. The PSVR is currently available at most retailers and should be in stock throughout the holiday season.

Acquiring the NES Classic Edition

I’m glad my son is still 4 years  old so I don’t have to be afraid of him seeing this post.

I know so many of you have either gone out of your way or are still trying to get your hands on the NES Classic Edition and I just wanted to share my experience. As someone who has been buying video game systems since I was old enough to have a job and was given the original NES as a Christmas present when I was 7, I have to say I was extremely excited to hear Nintendo would be releasing the NES Classic Edition, packaged with 30 games for the very fair price of $60 (basically $2 a game).

What I was not expecting and wasn’t happy to hear was how difficult Nintendo would be making the system to get. There were no preorders (virtually unheard of in today’s world) and the system would apparently be very short stocked. Now Im not going to knock Nintendo because Ive almost always had wonderful interactions with them but it does seem odd that they would have underestimated the appeal of such a nostalgic product that makes a perfect Christmas present for both adults looking to relive their childhood and kids who need to be introduced to the classics their parents grew up on.

Those facts aside Nintendo clearly has the hot item of Christmas 2016 on its hands and hopefully they will be able to get more of them produced for fans who are looking to have one under the tree this year.

Personally, I was away on an overnight trip to Kalahari Waterpark Resort (A really fun family getaway) the day the system released and although that could have spelled disaster for my chances…..thanks to my days sleeping outside of stores for new sneaker and video game releases I was ready for the task.

I woke up at 5am in the pitch black hotel room and snuck out the door as my wife and kids slept peacefully. I then ventured in the cold November air to a local Walmart which my GPS guided me to in the Poconos and to my relief there were only 4 people on line. I hopped on line and had a nice chat with some other fans (all parents waiting to bring home this piece of their childhood to their kids) as we waited for the store to open.

Thankfully everyone involved was cool and the store handled the line well informing us that there were only 12 NES Classic systems available and it would be one per person. I grabbed my system and as the sun rose I drove back to the hotel with my prize in hand very happy that I could give my little guy what has clearly become the “must have” gift of 2016.

I have to say I’ve found it fascinating to see this $60 piece of nostalgia, which is basically just an official emulator, sell for over $500 on Ebay. Even the $10 extra controller (Which should have been included) and $10 extension cord (Shouldn’t be needed. The controller should be longer) are selling for extremely high prices. All I’ll say is if you have the system, don’t be jerk about it and be thankful you got your hands on it ….and if you don’t have it yet, don’t go crazy, there will be more available soon and these are all games that have been around for over 30 years so just breathe and if you really want it Im sure it will be yours soon enough.15042048_10157715414785582_4447189213294839539_o
