NOTE: Apparently this didn’t post yesterday so it looks like today will be a double dose of toy goodness.
Every year or few years a toy comes out around the holidays that completely sneaks up on unsuspecting parents. There were Furby’s and Tickle Me Elmos to name a few and this year that “must have” toy is Hatchimals by Spin Master.
While those of us in the toy community have watched as Spin Master launched the Hatchimals in October to universal praise, most parents are probably just starting to “What is a Hatcnhimal?”
Well basically a Hatchimal is an egg that after some care will hatch into a cute little stuffed creature which will grow and learn from being a newborn baby to a toddler to a kid over time. Its a pretty fun experience for a kid to help hatch and grow their own toy and it puts a really nice spin on the formula of raising/traing a pet (monster)
So the awesome part is that this is a really fun and great gift that any kid would love…..BUT unfortunately they are basically sold out everywhere by now. Retailing for $59.99 most are already reselling on Ebay for $150-$200, which really sucks for parents.
Spin Master who in my eyes have always been a really great company for working with parents and kids alike released the following to address the issue:
A Message From Hatchimals
The consumer response to Hatchimals has been extraordinary, exceeding all expectations. Some of our first shipments have already sold out. While additional product will hit retail shelves in November, we anticipate this inventory will also sell out quickly. We have increased production and a whole new batch of Hatchimals will be ready to hatch in early 2017. This is a special season and we don’t want anyone to be disappointed, nor do we support inflated prices from non-authorized resellers. We are working on creative solutions to help kids and their parents withstand the wait. In the interim, some retailers are developing pre-sale and/or rain-check programs for redemption in January. We will continue to update with program details as they become available.
So basically if you really want to get a Hatcnhimal for your kid or loved one you’re going to need to pay attention because my guess is many stores will be keeping their stock for Black Friday/Thanksgiving Weekend. This will probably be your last chance before Christmas unless you want to pay inflated prices from resellers so keep your eyes peeled for in stock notices. Good luck and Godspeed on your Hatcnhimal quest.
